Faxing

Page history last edited by Mark Shaw 6 mos ago
With the increase use of email and web based fax alternatives, fax technology has slowed considerably in recent years.  However, most organizations would agree the need for a "light duty" shared fax machine that sees occasional use still exists.  All-in-one (printer/copier/fax) machines with expensive consumables are not recommended for use as a primary fax machine. Buy a standalone fax machine for its' reliability and simplicity.  There are several options available for fax services beyond the traditional fax machine. Web based faxing and "blast" fax services enable faxing to a large number of recipients or just a few. Many web based faxing services eliminate the need to have a fax at all by providing fax images that are sent and recieved.

Consider the following when selecting a fax machine:
  • Usage (light or heavy use)
  • Cost of Consumables
  • Quantity of data storage
  • Fax number address book
  • Group number storage
  • Automatic redial

Recommended Faxing Machine:
HP 1040 - $99 from cdw.com

Recommended Online Fax Service:
Internet and Blast Faxing: Services such as www.rapidfax.com , www.fax.com , and others allow you to send faxes via the Internet. They typically provide a toll-free number for receiving faxes. Faxes sent to this toll-free number are then delivered as image attachements to your email. Also look for discounts on an online fax service called Protus from TechSoup
