When it is necessary to share files with other staff members, clients, community partners, etc. who are not always in the same physical location, online file sharing may be an appropriate option. With an online file sharing service, staff with an Internet connection and the proper credentials (username and password), can access files.
Online file storage can replace traditional file servers by transferring all of the organizations files online or they can be used to simply share smaller sets of files online for convenience and collaboration.
In addition, storing files online instead of on a local computer creates an offsite backup that is resistant to theft and disaster losses. Generally, there is a per month fee for online file sharing and storage with a limit to the amount of gigabytes that can be stored.
